who is randy jones?

Howard Randall Jones – born September 11, 1956 in Dallas, Texas. I’m a very proud fifth generation Texan with deep family ties to Gainesville. I’ve lived here for the past 30 years.

I’m blessed to have been married to the “Love of My Life”, Debbie Jones, for over 40 years. We have a Daughter, Two Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren.

Qualifications

I founded and operated a small local business with a national clientele.  I am an investor and Entrepreneur with experience in Real Estate, Construction, Sales & Marketing, Employee and Financial management. I served on the Gainesville Planning & Zoning Commission for 11 years.

Why now?

I have always maintained an interest in, tried to stay aware, and actively involved in, the future of Gainesville. Since I have now retired from my company I am able and anxious, to work as a FULL TIME servant of the people in Ward 3, and contribute to the betterment of all the citizens of Gainesville.

Issues...

Like most of us, I have concerns about street repairs, the seeming lack of code enforcement and not much business growth. But the main issue that I am pursuing is the establishment of a Railroad Quiet Zone. Although, It’s not a huge issue for us here in Ward 3, I believe it would be a great benefit for all of Gainesville.

In November of 2022, The City held a bond election for $2.8 million dollars to be used for the establishment of a Quiet Zone. It was soundly defeated by a 3 – 1 margin. ( I voted against it myself! ) Not because I didn’t want a Quiet Zone, but because I didn’t want it done at the taxpayer’s expense with borrowed money!

Since then, I have done extensive research, raised private funds for additional engineering studies and met with officials of BNSF, the Federal Railroad Administration, Amtrak, TxDOT, etc.  I am now convinced that it can be done for a fraction of that amount and funded through private sources.

Let's have a conversation...

I'd love to know your thoughts, concerns and questions about our neighborhood and our city.
